Ubiquity
London-based Ubiquity is a high growth #openaccess publisher of academic journals and books and an #opensource tech service provider to the academic community. In addition to publishing over 800 journals, it provides state-of-the-art university press platforms and institutional repositories to academic institutions, all based open source technology. We at Park 56 were approached by the shareholders of Ubiquity to find a new home for the business, to accelerate its growth trajectory, because of our deep understanding of the publishing eco-system and our strong global network.
Our journey started at the London Book Fair earlier this year and came to a conclusion last week, while the first live edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair, #fbf22, since Covid19 was in full swing. We experienced wide demand for Ubiquity, including parties who traditionally positioned themselves as suppliers of academic publishers, showing how the eco-system is in flux and how solutions become an integral part of publishers’ offering.
We are proud to have supported the management team and shareholders of Ubiquity in joining De Gruyter, a Berlin-based leading academic publisher with a strong commitment to open science. Ubiquity and De Gruyter will will work together closely to advance their mission to make academic research globally accessible and discoverable by offering excellent publishing services.
